Faith 'n Fiction Saturdays: Christian Bookstores

It's time once again for Faith 'n Fiction Saturday with My Friend Amy, and if you'd like to participate, feel free to check out her blog post with this weeks question.

While books and bookstores in general are suffering, Christian bookstores are suffering even more in this economy. Do you have a Christian bookstore that you shop at? Why don't you tell us about your local Christian bookstore and the benefits that if offers. If you don't shop at a Christian bookstore, then please tell us where you get your books, music, and other Christian gift items.

My answer:

I live in a big Christian college town, so fortunately I have more than one to choose from. The Christian bookstores we have are a Mardel, a Lifeway, and another that is independent (although they do have some ties to Parable), as well as the mainstream Borders and Barnes & Noble. I usually go to the independent Christian bookstore since everything they sell is at least 15 per cent off. They often send out coupons for special promotions as well. The bookstore brings in fiction authors (good ones too - Beverly Lewis, KK, Colleen Coble, just to name a few) for book signings, and has really great promotions for the kids when new VeggieTales come out. They have a super selection in every department and their staff is top notch.

How about you?

I have to admit I'm a tad jealous. Our only Christian Book store finally closed after struggling for over a year. Thank goodness for PaperbackSwap and CBD.

I'm so thrilled you have so many options. I get to drive 45 min to a Christian bookstore. :(
