How many of you enjoy a good mystery? I know I do - and I'm pleased to report that the first book in this newest series by Gilbert Morris didn't leave me disappointed.
The first book,
What the Cat Dragged In, combines likable characters, a whimsical menagerie, and nefarious goings-on which makes for a read you can't put down. The plot moves along nicely, and "who-dun-it" is not who you'd expect.
About the book:
Jacques the Ripper is a toughminded "Savannah" breed of feline fierce, enormous, and with a mind of his own. And...then theres Cleo: A multicolored Rag Doll with long silky hair. Cleo is as affectionate as Jacques is tough and her favorite mode of transportation is draped over the shoulder of the nearest human. In their debut mystery, Jacques and Cleo and their owner...or rather the human they own, Kate Forrest, and her son, Jeremy, move to a beautiful beach house in Gulf Shores, Alabama, left to Kate by a distant relative.
The catch is that another distant relative, wannabe novelist (and bonafide cathater) Jake Novak, has also inherited an interest in the house. Undeterred, Kate and Jeremy move in the downstairs quarters and Jake takes the separate apartment upstairs. Then, when a murder occurs...everyone is stumped, but feline sleuths Jacques and Cleo come to the rescue and reveal the identity of the killer. If you enjoy this first offering in the series as much as I did, be sure to check out the next two.
The Cat's Pajamas, is currently out and is up next for me, and
When the Cat's Away, which releases around the first of July.

Liked your review on this one, Jenny :)
Yippe! Glad to know it is good. I just purchased this book last Friday.
i want to read this book! i've read all of Gilbert Morris' other books and i want to see how he fits into this genre
I was wondering about this series. I will check them out.=)
Hi Rel, Cee Cee, Deborah and Jen - thanks for all the comments! I am around halfway through the 2nd book. (It's good so far but it's taken Gilbert this long to finally get around to killing someone off! *wink*)
Deborah - I'm a big fan of GM too. He seems to do a good job writing contemporary suspense. What are your fave's of his? Mine are his new "Singing River" series, Cheney Duvall, and the Creole series.
Anybody else have any GM faves??
Well, I have to admit I am not a huge fan of Gilbert Morris but did enjoy Cheney Duvall and another contemporary mystery series he did years agao but I can't think of the name - LOL!
i liked the cheney duvall, the Appomattox saga, and the liberty bell series the best. the house of winslow is good too but they kept repeating themselves. actually that's the only fault i find with his books. i swear i've read some of the storylines or characters in his books over and over again.
Book discussions! I love it. I've only read Angels of Bastilogne(sp) (yes, I butchered the title). Can't wait to read his mysteries.
